The Reclamation Project :: "For SHE Who Is" Art Exhibit
Held on Saturday, October 23 (Opening) and November 13, 2021 (Closing)
at Tri-Cities Tattoo Company in East Point, Georgia.
RSVP required for this MASKED and METERED exhibit.
Sponsored in part by Tri-Cities Tattoo Company, Lord Yatta Arte,
Real Chicks Rock, My Standard of Beauty, and WfjrFilms.
The Reclamation Project, curated by Absolutely Divine Events, is a visual celebration of Black women's beauty, spirituality, sensuality, and sexuality and of the perceived self-image and worth as women. This project is inspired by classic images from Players Magazine, Players Pictorial, Oh Brother and Jet Magazine's annual nude calendars from the 1970s and 1980s. From a shared, online gallery, each participating artist will have the option to select an original image from the collection of vintage photos to serve as inspiration in the creation of a new work in their chosen medium.
We are honored to feature the following artists in “For SHE Who Is...”
Melissa Alexander · Darlene Deloris · Dizzy Dain · Melissa Thomas · Uncle Bree · MARRYAM MOMA ·
Linda Costa Photography · CBROOKSART · Carolyn Miller · JY · Solette Ettelos ·
Carina Ayiesha · Aaliyah Amazing · Charity Hamidullah · Donna Schiele ·
Earth.Metal.Paper. · Funmi · Cam A Bee · Rena Durham · Maiya Ellick · Kelley B ·
Evelyn Quiñones · Tracee Ginyard · Bronze Thrills.
The Reclamation Project is a "love letter" to Black women, young and old. Reclamation is about Black women releasing feelings of shame, guilt, and embarrassment tied to their bodies and reclaiming their sexuality, their sensuality, and their womanhood. It's about understanding how each of these elements are intricately intertwined with their spirituality. As women, daughters, wives, sisters, and mothers, Black women are constantly reclaiming and redefining the very definition of who they are; peeling off all labels that no longer serve them. The Reclamation Project is about being at peace with and *loving* who you are, as you are, where you are.
